STEEL SECTIONS:Your door has been pre-finished with a baked on polyester paint system. To complete the finishing process, sponge wash the door with a mild powered detergent and warm water. Rinse and allow the door to dry before applying paint. Use a high quality exterior grade acrylic latex paint. Do not use an oil based/ alkyd paint. The paint can be applied with a roller; however, a superior finish will be obtained with an airless or HVLP spray gun. Prior to applying the paint, verify the paint manufacturer's painting instructions. Be careful not to get paint inside the tongue and groove edges. Failure to do so will result in the paint bonding the sections together, thus, making the door inoperable.
Applying a different color paint to the trim boards will intensify the appearance of the trim boards from the rest of the door. This process is easily accomplished by rolling the paint on to the trim boards with a 4" foam roller (Two coats are recommended). Applying a 3/8-inch strip of black paint in between the two 4-inch boards that are side by side and spaced 3/8 of an inch apart, will give the appearance that the doors are not connected.
